Brand Identity

Through a style-guide project in my Brand Identity class, I developed a strong grasp of how foundational a brand’s identity is to its overall success. Our task was to create a style guide and design for our own hypothetical company, logistics aside.

Through this project, I learned that while a brand’s vision, mission, and value statements may seem simple on the surface, they carry immense weight. These elements should communicate why the company exists, what they are about and where they want to be – all while staying true to the brand voice.

Arguably one of the most important elements to a brand’s identity would be the Unique Selling Proposition (USP). Whether it’s being the best, fastest, smartest, or most eco-friendly, this distinct quality is what sets a brand apart from its competitors and gives it a competitive edge. I positioned StyleMe as the most sophisticated styling app, considering it takes into account existing user wardrobes, weather, occasion, and specific requests. There are other styling apps that take into account personal style preferences, but it isn't as sophisticated as StyleMe who looks at existing user wardrobes.

I also explored the importance of storytelling in crafting a brand’s personality. A brand story should not only be captivating but also make sense for the product or service to give purpose to the brand. Considering StyleMe's target audience is made up of women 18 to 24-years-old entering the work force, I centered the story around the common every-day stressor of getting ready.
